Jason Cripps was a determined and effective tagger and defender who missed three full seasons of football after sustaining a serious hamstring injury. Prior to the injury, which happened in 1998, he had established a reputation as one of the best taggers in the league, typically being given the job of endeavouring to nullify the impact of the opposition’s most dangerous midfielder. Cripps resumed his career in 2001 when he managed just a couple of appearances for the year before playing 20 games in 2002. Somewhat surprisingly, he was de-listed at the end of the season, having played 60 AFL games and scored 10 goals for the Saints from 1996 to 1998 and in 2001-2. A career high point came in 1997 when he was a member of St Kilda’s grand final team against Adelaide. However, despite producing a respectable performance he could not prevent the Crows from surging to victory.
