Lorenzo 'Laurie' Serafini was a top quality defender whose career was unfortunately cut short by injury. A product of Assumption College, he commenced with Fitzroy in 1977, and after a handful of games as a forward he found his true niche at full back, in which position he represented Victoria against South Australia in 1983. Later in his career he moved out to centre half back and made a success of this position two. A succession of injuries - achilles, groin and knee - forced him into early retirement in 1985 at the comparatively young age of twenty-seven. He played a total of 146 VFL games for the Lions, kicking 9 goals. Older brother Renato also played League football for Fitzroy.
