Originally from Broome, Neil Marshall commenced with Claremont in 1995 and was taken by West Coast at that year’s National Draft. However, he did not play for the Eagles in 1996 but remained with the Tigers, taking part in their grand final win over East Perth. The 1997 season saw him making his AFL debut with West Coast against Sydney but he never thereafter managed to cement his place in the team and added just three more appearances over the next two seasons.

Meanwhile Marshall’s Westar Rules/WAFL career continued to go from strength to strength. In 1999, after playing 52 games and booting 10 goals for Claremont, he crossed to Subiaco and rounded off his career with another 82 games and 63 goals in half a dozen and a bit seasons. In 2003 he played in the Lions’ losing grand final team against West Perth.
