After impressing at Dandenong in the VFA, where he played in a premiership team in what proved to be his last game in 1991, Paul McCormack was drafted by Carlton. Typically used as a half back flanker, he played 14 games and scored two goals for the Blues between 1992 and 1994. The 1995 season found him at Norwood, where he impressed greatly. In 1995 and from 1997 to 1999 he made 52 senior appearances for the Redlegs without scoring a goal. His last game was the 1999 grand final loss to Port Adelaide. Two years earlier he had the misfortune to miss the winning grand final against the same opponent with a knee injury. He played twice for the South Australian state league team, and after a 1998 match against Western Australia he won the Fos Williams Medal for best afield.
