Footscray recruited Phil Bradmore from North Shore, and he made his senior VFL debut in 1978. However, he struggled to make an impression, managing just 15 games in three seasons. In 1981 he transferred to West Perth and, after blowing hot and cold in his first season, seemed to find a new lease of life, stamping himself as one of the most imposing key position players in the league.

His form underwent a dip in 1983 and 1984 but in 1985 he produced probably the best and most consistent season in his career, winning the Breckler Medal as West Perth's fairest and best player, and representing Western Australia against South Australia at Subiaco. When he retired in 1988 he had played a total of 139 senior games for the Falcons, kicking 193 goals.
