Stan Jaffer was a talented utility (or ‘all-rounder’, to use the parlance of the day) whose career unfortunately coincided with a bleak era for his club, South Adelaide. He captained the club in 1930, 1931 and 1933, but its best finishing position during that time was sixth (of eight) in his first season. Jaffer won South’s best and fairest award in 1931, and finished second to Max Pontifex of West Torrens in the following year’s Magarey Medal count. From 1928 to 1935 he played a total of 98 senior SANFL games and kicked 10 goals for South, and represented South Australia four times.
