Twin brother of Alistair Lord, Geelong’s Stewart Lord was less brilliant as a footballer but no less effective and arguably more consistent. Extremely determined and boasting good general skills he attacked the ball with great energy and purpose, and was also a safe overhead mark.
Lord played most of his 74 VFL games between 1960 and 1964 as a half back flanker, including the 1963 grand final when the Cats downed Hawthorn. (Right at the start of his career though he played as a forward, and all 13 of the goals he scored in his career came in his debut season.)
Stewart Lord left League football behind at the age of just twenty-four after taking on the role of captain-coach of Camperdown. He was later non-playing coach of V FA side Geelong West.
