Used mainly as a forward during his 23 game, 21 goal career with North Melbourne in 1980-1 Michael Reeves underwent a transformation into a defender and ruckman during his time with Fitzroy, which ran from 1983 to 1987, during which time he made 40 senior appearances and scored 10 goals. In 1986 he was a key member of the Lions team which unexpectedly made it as far as the preliminary final, before crashing out to Hawthorn. After 40 VFL games and 10 goals Reeves crossed to Box Hill in the VFA in 1989 where he rounded off his playing career with 16 games and 36 goals over two seasons.
