Scott Morphett was a highly dependable forward and occasional on-baller who combined good skill at ground level with strong hands and an eye for goal. Morphett's first stab at league football was at Geelong, but he managed just one senior game for the Cats in 1985. His 10-season SANFL career got underway in 1987 at West Torrens for whom he would go on to play 97 senior games during that club's final four seasons as a standalone entity.
Between 1991 and 1996 he added another 147 games with Woodville-West Torrens. He also represented South Australia once. Morphett shared the West Torrens best and fairest player award of 1989 with Steve Geyer, and won the Woodville-West Torrens trophy outright in that club's debut season of 1991. That was the year that Morphett booted 99 goals to top the SANFL's goal kicking list. He was the leading goal kicker for his club on four occasions. His career highlight came in 1993 when, lining up across half forward, he helped the Eagles to a resounding 73-point Grand Final victory over Norwood.
