Gigsy's Ladder Comp: Round 6 - Breaking the LAW
There was movement at the station...
...but not much at the top of the "ladder ladder" with Al W proving hard to dislodge from the top, just as the Western Bulldogs found that North Melbourne are proving to be in the AFL ladder. While he remains on top, the gap between Al and his challengers has narrowed. Al's score is 60, with Rob N and Running Hoops, up from third and fifth respectively, only two behind on 62. Equal fourth are The Cattery and The Ex-Wife's New Man on 64 with Ethel Maudie (who is the ex-wife), Chris T, Helen G and Cookie all equal 6th on 66. All 6th on 66? Those devils!
One of those devils, Helen G is part of a family of four who are all doing very well, each of them in the top 40. Helen G's husband Robert G and daughter Susie G are in 13th place on 70, while another daughter, Kat G was in eighth place last week and she is still well placed in 37th spot on 76 after this week. All I can say is, G they're good! (The fact they all barrack for G-long may be helping them at this stage, of course, with the Cats doing so well.)
At the other end of the table, The Alpha Male is still languishing in last spot on 128, two behind the nostalgic prognosticator Remy Niscence's 126, with Muscovite mapmaker Yrag Legov third-last on 124.
Last year's winner, Footy Maths Institute, is in 47th place, 18 points from the lead but by no means out of contention, while last year's runner up, Adam C is 127th, with a score of 100 and a lot of ground to make up.
But what if...
Yes, what if all the games this year that have been decided by under a goal had gone the other way? Just for fun, (Because that's what footy's about yeah? Fun?) I wrote on that very topic in my Micro Noises column this week (check it out here) and had the eight affected games gone the other way, it would have sent Hawthorn plummeting down to 14th on the ladder, and moved four other clubs in significant ways.
But how different would the 'ladder ladder' have looked? Perhaps surprisingly, not too different, although Al W would not be our leader. In front would be Running Hoops on 70, followed by a logjam of five in equal second place on 72: Al W, Rob N, The Cattery, Cookie and Gigsy's Mum. It wouldn't have helped me though. Instead of 114th, I'd be 116th. Clearly my ladder is beyond help this year.
The real ladder ladder is below and spreadsheets are on the way to all entrants' email in box.
Until next week, happy laddering!
