Mr. Hugh Landles Purse, former general manager of the Yorkshire Insurance company, died on Saturday. He was 71. Mr. Purse played football for Melbourne from 1902 to 1912 and was vice-captain of the Victorian team which won the first carnival, held in 1908.
He captained the Melbourne team in the later part of his football career. Mr. Purse was educated at Brighton Grammar School. He was a member of the Brighton Grammarians' Lodge and the Brighton Lowrie Lodge. His wife predeceased him and he is survived by one son. A second son was killed in the last war.
The funeral will leave Mr. Purse's home in Grosvenor-street, Brighton, for Spring Vale Crematorium after a service at 1.10 pm. today. Funeral arrangements are by J. Monkhouse and Son.
