Mr. Jim Grace, a former champion footballer of Fitzroy, died on Saturday. He began playing football In 1890, and quickly achieved fame as a full-forward. He retired in 1899. In that time he played in the 1895,1898, and 1899 premiership teams, and was also vice-captain. Followers still talk of his great tussles with Proudfoot, the Collingwood full-back of that period.
His brother, Mick, who played with Fitzroy and Carlton, died last year.¹ His wife predeceased him by some years. The funeral will be at the Melbourne General Cemetery, leaving his residence, Park street. North Carlton, at 2 p.m. to-morrow.

Many former footballers attended the funeral of Mr James Grace at the Melbourne General Cemetery Carlton yester day Mr Grace was a member of the Fitzroy Football Club and in the 'nineties was one of Melbourne's leading footballers. A brother Michael, who also played for Fitzroy and Carlton died several years ago.

Among those who attended the funeral were the president of the Fitzroy Football Club (Mr L R McLennan) the secretary (Mr M. E. Green) and the treasurer (Mr P Mitchell), Messrs. J. Kerrigan, R. Ewing, W. Cleary, J. Power, W. Lee C. Hailwood, K. Robinson, J. Moriarty, E. Kinnear, J. Gray, and J. Deas. The service at the graveside was conducted by Rev Father J Kirby.
The chief mourners were his son Mr. Hugh Grace, and his sister, Mrs C. Johnstone. The funeral was conducted by R. Robson, of North Fitzroy.
