Salisbury

Salisbury is believed to have won its first ever premiership in 1937, although the club can trace its origins as far back as 1883. That initial premiership was captured in the Lower North Football Association with Virginia the vanquished grand final foe. After world war two Salisbury was a successful member of the Gawler and Districts Football Association and claimed successive senior grade flags in 1956 and 1957. The Magpies’ grand final opposition in both seasons was provided by South Gawler, with Salisbury winning by 21 points in 1956 and 20 points the following year.

The 1961 season saw the Magpies lining up in the Central District Football Association which was later renamed the Northern Metropolitan Football League. They remained in this competition until the end of the 1994 season, procuring a total of seven senior grade flags, including a competition record four in succession between 1968 and 1971. Since commencing in the amateurs they have won senior grade premierships in the equivalent of Divisions Seven (1997), Six (2001) and Four (2007). The 1997 season was particularly special in that the club’s reserve grade side also went top.

The last decade has seen the Magpies spend time in Divisions Three and Four. They reached the Division Four grand final in 2011, but lost to Kilburn by 9 points. Nevertheless, the primary aim of promotion to Division Three had been achieved. The Magpies spent three seasons in Division Three before being relegated to Division Four. In 2017 they finished sixth of ten after winning 9 of their 18 home and away matches before enduring a dismal time in 2018 when their tally of just 4 wins consigned them to the wooden spoon.
