Muswellbrook

Between 1988 and 1993 Muswellbrook competed in the Newcastle Australian Football League but was then forced to disband owing to a lack of players. On reforming in 2003 the Cats affiliated with the Tamworth Australian Football League and two years later claimed their first and, to date, only senior grade premiership with a 3 point, come from behind grand final defeat of Tamworth Swans.

The 2014 season saw the Cats venturing to pastures new in the shape of the Black Diamond AFL. In 2016, competing in the BDAFL's third tier competition, known as Division Two, Muswellbrook won all 14 home and away matches followed by a second semi final defeat of The Entrance Bateau Bay. However, when they met the same opponents again in the grand final they unaccountably lowered their colours for the only time in the season.

A year later the BDAFL was reorganised into two divisions. Competing in the lower of these, known as the Plate, the Cats struggled and their eventual tally of just 2 wins saw them finish in eighth place out of nine teams. A year later they improved somewhat to qualify for the finals and ultimately finish third.
