Valley
Valley Australian Football Club (sometimes referred to as Valleys) first competed in the QFL in 1905. It reached the premiership deciding match in its very first season, but lost to minor premiers City. It again played off for the flag in 1909, only to lose on this occasion to Wynnum. City’s first premiership was claimed in 1912 by virtue of a 9.6 (60) to 5.15 (45) defeat of South Brisbane. A year later, the club went back to back with a 14.16 (100) to 10.7 (67) victory over a Royal Artillery side that was in its second and final season of involvement in the competition. In 1914, Valley again contested the ultimate match of the season, but lost to South by 21 points, after which the QFL went into recess owing to the war.
When the competition finally resumed in 1920, Valley was once again a force, finishing as runner-up that year, and again in 1921 and 1923. The club’s third premiership arrived in 1925 courtesy of an 11.12 (78) to 9.8 (62) grand final triumph over Brisbane. The 1926 season saw Brisbane turning the tables in what was to prove Valley’s last ever premiership deciding match.
In 1928 Valley and erstwhile arch rival Brisbane combined forces but, perhaps surprisingly, in four seasons of competition the merged club failed even to contest a grand final. Valley resumed as an autonomous club in 1933 but after four unsuccessful seasons the club appears to have disbanded for good.
