Bassendean

Bassendean was an inaugural member in 1967 of the Western Australian Amateur Football League’s E Grade competition, and enjoyed premiership success at the first time of asking. It followed this up with a D Grade flag in 1968. Its next two senior grade grand final triumphs were both in C Grade, in 1990 and 2002. Most recently of all, the Swans went top in C2 Grade in 2014 when they accounted for Carlisle in the grand final by 15 points, 11.3 (69) to 8.6 (54). Promoted to C1 Grade as a consequence they finished eighth of ten teams in 2015 before slumping to ninth place the following year which meant relegation back to C2 Grade. Their yo-yo style existence was continued in 2017 when they scored an upset grand final victory over previously unbeaten Gosnells to earn promotion back to C1 Grade as premiers. Their first season at the higher level showed promise but was ultimately frustrating as the Swans failed to build on an excellent home and away campaign. Second after the minor round, they overcame Willetton in the qualifying final before losing heavily to Ballajura in the following week's second semi final. Stung by this defeat they failed to do themselves justice in the preliminary final allowing opponents Willetton to turn the tables on them with an 11.11 (77) to 6.10 (46) win.

It only took the Swans a season to turn things round d as they topped the ladder going into the finals before cruising to the flag thanks to victories over Bullcreek Leeming in both the second semi final (by a margin of 39 points) and grand final (by nine points). Promoted to B Grade as a consequence Bassendean performed strongly in what, owing to the coronavirus pandemic, was an abbreviated, eight round competition. They ultimately got as far as a losing preliminary final against West Coast amateurs.
