City (Hobart)

City Football Club was formed in 1876 and, after entering the Tasmanian Football Association (TFA) when that competition was established three years later, in 1879, was successful in winning the inaugural premiership. Five further flags followed before the club disbanded at the end of the 1897 season, having assumed the name of Hobart that year. Perhaps the best known player to have lined up with City was Fred McGinis, who later embarked on a noteworthy career in both the VFA and VFL with Melbourne.
