Cygnet

During the time when Tasmania’s Southern Football League was reorganised into Premier and Regional Divisions (2002-8) Cygnet was by some measure the latter competition’s most successful team. A proudly local club, no fewer than eighteen of its 2004 premiership twenty-two came up through the junior ranks.

Prior to entering the SthFL in 1998, Cygnet had enjoyed consistent success in the Huon Football League, winning no fewer than thirty-one senior grade premierships in just under ninety seasons. The club also won the state country championship in 1947 and 1948.

Recent seasons have seen The Port experience mixed fortunes. For example, they ended up with wooden spoons in 2014 and 2015 while, by contrast, every year from 2016 to 2020 has seen them playing finals football, with their effort in 2020, when they reached the grand final, especially meritorious..
