East Wagga Kooringal

Originally known as Gumly Gumly, the club competed in the Wagga and District Football League before crossing to the Central Riverina Football League in 1959, at which point it adopted the name of East Wagga. During their eighteen season stint in this competition the Hawks won three senior grade premierships and were runners-up on five occasions.

The 1977 season brought a move to the Farrer Football League where the Hawks spent five seasons, qualifying for the grand final twice. In 1979 they were successful at the expense of Wagga, but the following year they lost to the same opposition. The 1980 season also saw a name change to East Wagga Kooringal after the club merged with Kooringal Junior Football Club.

In 1982 the Hawks transferred to the Riverina Football League in which their only senior grade premiership was procured in their very first season. Opposed by Coolamon in the grand final, the East Wagga Kooringal players kicked straighter and held their nerve when it mattered most in recording victory by 5 points, 12.8 (80) to 10.15 (75). When the same two sides contested the grand final again the following year it was an even closer affair, with the match ending in a draw. In the replay, however, Coolamon proved comfortably too strong, and won by nearly 7 goals.

The Hawks’ only other senior grade grand final appearance in the RFL came in 2001 but it proved a day to forget as they lost by 100 points to Wagga Tigers.

Since transferring to the Farrer Football League in 2010 the Hawks have qualified for every finals series. They reached grand finals in 2014, 2015 and 2016, emerging victorious from the last of these. The 2017 season saw them advance as far as the preliminary final only to lose to Marrar, while a year later they dropped one place on the ladder to fourth. In 2019 they reached the grand final only to lower their colours to North Wagga Saints by a margin of 20 points.
