The Magpies fronted up for the 2017 season as the reigning North Western Football Association premiers. In fact, they were bidding to capture their third premiership in succession, and looked on course to do so after topping the ladder prior to the finals with a 100% record before proceeding straight into the grand final with a 17.14 (116) to 15.15 (105) second semi final defeat of Wesley Vale. However, when the same two sides again faced one another a fortnight later on grand final day the Magpies inexplicably produced easily their worst performance of the season in capitulating by 6 goals.

Amends were swiftly made as the Magpies scored an emphatic premiership triumph in 2018. After topping the ladder with a 100% record from 16 matches they surged past Motton Preston in the second semi final by a margin of 52 points before facing Wesley Vale on grand final day. By quarter time they had already carved out a 34 point lead which they translated to a margin of 125 points by the end. Scores were 24.14 (158) to 4.9 (33). Hot favourites to continue their dominance of the competition in 2019 the Magpies went on to endure a disappointing campaign which saw them finish fifth after losing the elimination final to Spreyton. A year later they improved sufficiently to qualify for another grand final but opponents Motton Preston had their measure and won comfortably.
