Kalangadoo

The Magpies were especially strong during the 1950s, contesting half a dozen grand finals during the decade, and winning all but one of them. The club can trace its history back to the early years of the twentieth century when it engaged in social matches against teams from other towns in the vicinity, such as Glencoe and Naracoorte. For a brief time prior to world war one Kalangadoo competed in the Millicent Football Association, getting as far as the grand final in 1908 only to lose to Warriors. Following the war, the club does not appear to have been formally reconstituted until 1927, when it joined the South East Football Association B Grade competition, earning the flag in its debut season thanks to an 8.8 (56) to 5.5 (35) grand final defeat of South Gambier B. Four more premierships came Kalangadoo’s way before the club transferred to the Mid South Eastern Football League in 1936, where it has remained ever since.

The club’s eighth MSEFL flag was obtained in dramatic fashion in 2001. Opposed in the grand final by Nangwarry, the Magpies almost kicked themselves out of the match, racking up 33 scoring shots to 23 in drawing 12.21 (93) to 14.9 (93). A week later they made their obvious superiority tell as they raced to a comfortable 58 point victory, 17.12 (114) to 8.8 (56).

The Magpies' ninth and most recent MSEFL grand final triumph came in 2014 when Tantanoola were downed by 53 points. Scores were Kalangadoo 22.12 (144) defeated Tantanoola 13.13 (91). Since then they have finished third in 2015, runners-up to Mount Burr in 2016, third in 2017 after topping the ladder ahead of the finals, and third once more in 2018.
