Melton South
The Panthers were born in 1973, and spent their first quarter of a century competing in the Riddell District Football League. In 1994 they claimed a Division One grand final triumph which was arguably doubly satisfying in that it was achieved at the expense of local rivals Melton.
The 1997 season saw both Melton clubs debuting in the Ballarat Football League where both have since done well, although the Panthers have yet to break through for a flag. They did contest a grand final in 2001, but lost heavily to Melton. The reserves, however, have won a couple of premierships.
In 2007 Melton South qualified for the finals in fifth position but bowed out of the flag race at the first hurdle against Ballarat. This still represented a marked improvement over 2006 when the side finished second from last after managing just 3 wins and a draw from 18 matches. The 2008 season produced another fifth place finish as the Panthers again went down to Ballarat in the elimination final. The Panthers' only finals appearance since 2008 came in 2011 and overall results of late have been disappointing, most notably of all in 2016 when they endured the ultimate ignominy of a winless wooden spoon. A year later they climbed one place on the premiership ladder after winning 2 and drawing 1 of their 16 matches. The 2018 season brought another wooden spoon, albeit that on this occasion the Panthers did manage to record a win.
