North Albany
Formed in 1897 North Albany did not engage in formal competition until 1908 when it was a founder member, and inaugural premier, of the first ever local league. More premierships soon followed, with North Albany repeatedly proving itself a competition pace setter. In 1946 the club altered its name to Towns, but reverted to North Albany a decade later. The 1958 season saw the establishment of the Southern Districts National Football League and North Albany soon emerged as a force in this competition also. When the SDNFL gave way to the Great Southern Football League in 1991 the Kangas were foundation members. Their feat of winning four successive flags between 2005 and 2008 has only been bettered by Royals, who claimed six in a row from 1999 to 2004. North Albany’s most recent premiership was procured in 2018 by virtue of a 9.7 (61) to 6.8 (44) grand final defeat of Railways. The triumph was their fifth in succession, surpassing their earlier feat of winning four flags in a row from 2005 to 2008.
