Renmark

Commonly referred to simply as Renmark, the Rovers captured the 2009 Riverland Football League premiership in emphatic fashion, thereby ending a flag drought stretching back to 1995. Third after the minor round, the black and whites overcame Barmera Monash in the first semi final and Waikerie in the preliminary final to set up what was expected to be a closely fought grand final clash with Loxton. However, the Rovers burst out of the blocks in spectacular fashion, leading 3.3 to 0.1 by the first change before adding 6 unanswered second term goals to effectively put the match out of their opponents’ reach. Final scores were Renmark 18.15 (123) defeated Loxton 5.10 (40). The result ensured that Renmark retained its record of claiming at least one senior grade premiership every decade from the 1950s to the 2000s. Mind you, they have only a couple more seasons of the present decade left if they are to extend the record, something they came close to in 2018 when they made it through to the grand final only to go down fighting by 46 points to Waikerie..
