Western Rams
The first incarnation of the Rockbank Football Club, which was formed in 1919, was a force in the Bacchus Marsh District Football Association/League between 1920 and 1972, winning a total of seven senior grade premierships. Nicknamed the Rams, their most noteworthy flag was probably that of 1965, when they massacred Melton in the grand final by 139 points, 29.21 (195) to 8.8 (56). At the end of the 1972 season, the club disbanded.
The current incarnation of the Rockbank Football Club (known as the Western Rams since 2021) was formed in 1992 when it affiliated with the Footscray District Football League. In 2000, the Rams crossed to the Riddell District Football League in which they have competed since, without as yet achieving premiership success. In recent seasons they have struggled somewhat. For example, in 2016 they lost every match contested which inevitably meant they collected the wooden spoon. A year later they improved marginally with their tally of 2 wins from 16 matches elevating them one place on the premiership ladder but the 2018 season saw them once again consigned to the wooden spoon after they only managed a single win from 16 home and away matches. As of the end of the 2023 season, the Rams maintain the longest active losing streak in the state, going 69 games without a win since their solitary victory over Broadford in 2018.
