Rosebery Toorak
Between 1987 and 1989 Rosebery Toorak competed, without achieving premiership success, in the now defunct Western Tasmanian Football Association. After commencing in the North West Football Association in 1990 the Hawks took a few seasons to find their feet before contesting their first grand final in 1996, when they lost by 14 points to Wesley Vale. The club’s inaugural premiership was claimed two years later, with Wesley Vale again providing the grand final opposition, and then in 1999 the Hawks went back to back with a resounding 29.12 (186) to 13.2 (80) grand final defeat of Spreyton. A third straight grand final appearance followed in 2000 but Sheffield proved to have the Hawks’ measure, and following that the club’s fortunes dipped for a time, but recent seasons have consistently seen finals participation suggesting that another premiership triumph might be just around the corner. That said, in 2017 the team suffered something of a setback as they won just 7 of 16 roster matches to finish sixth and miss the finals before suffering the ultimate indignity of a wooden spoon in 2018 when they lost all 16 matches contested for the year.
