South Clare

Clubs known as South Clare existed between 1915 and 1918, and 1920 and 1936, capturing a total of five premierships. In between these periods and from 1937 until 1959 South Clare was merged with North Clare forming the Clare Football Club.

Today’s South Clare Football Club got underway in 1960 as a member of the Mid North Football League. In 1961 against Saddleworth and 1962 at the expense of North Clare it claimed premierships. The 1963 season brought a third straight grand final appearance but Riverton had the Demons’ measure.

Since 1964 South Clare has been affiliated with the North Eastern Football League in which it has, to date, contested a total of nineteen senior grade grand finals, winning eight of them. The Demons’ most recent grand final appearance came in 2006 when they were defeated by Blyth Snowtown by 52 points. A year earlier they had procured their tenth senior grade flag with a 17.13 (115) to 13.9 (87) grand final defeat of Mintaro Manoora. The 2007 season saw the Demons qualify for the finals for what proved to be the last time until a 2017 season which saw them get as far as a preliminary final loss to BSR. A year later they finished one place adrift of finals qualification.
