Sunbury

Prior to commencing in the Ballarat Football League in 1997 Sunbury had enjoyed considerable success in the Riddell District Football League, claiming a total of thirteen senior grade premierships dating as far back as the 1920s. The club could scarcely have had a more memorable start to its involvement in the BFL as it promptly won three senior grade premierships in succession. A fourth was added in 2004 and a fifth in 2012 courtesy of a 23.17 (155) to 15.8 (98) grand final trouncing of Redan.. In addition to their senior grade successes in the BFL the Lions have claimed no fewer than half a dozen reserve grade flags plus three in the thirds. The seniors have been losing BFL grand finalists on no fewer than seven occasions.
