Tailem Bend
The original Tailem Bend Football Club existed between the early 1900s and 1934, when it split into two separate clubs, Tailem Bend Centrals and Tailem Bend Warriors. Centrals lasted just four season and the Warriors only slightly longer, although they did manage to capture a couple of premierships. In 1946 when the River Murray Football League resumed operations a new Tailem Bend Football Club was among the competition’s members. This club has retained its affiliation with the RMFL to this day, achieving considerable success, including fourteen senior grade flags from twenty-four grand finals. The club was especially strong during the 1990s, contesting grand finals in 1991, 1992, 1995, 1996 and 1997, and winning all but the first of these. The Eagles’ most recent senior grade premiership was claimed in 2000 thanks to a 15.10 (100) to 9.3 (57) grand final defeat of Imperial. They last played off in a grand final in 2005 but it was an altogether forgettable experience from the Tailem Bend perspective as Jervois won with embarrassing ease by 135 points. Performances since have been undistinguished with the nadir being reached with wooden spoons in 2007, 2010, 2012, 2013. 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2018.
