Violet Town
The Violet Town Football Club was formally established in 1880 but it was not really until after the first world war that it began to engage in regular, organised competition. Between the wars the club enjoyed premiership success five times, once in the North Eastern Football Association, twice in the Euroa District Football League, and twice in the Tatong and Thoona Football Association. After capturing its second TTFA flag in 1939 Violet Town returned to the EuDFL which, unusually for the period, continued to function during world war two. The Towners claimed a third EuDFL premiership in 1944 and a fourth in 1948.
Violet Town’s time in the Benalla Tungamah Football League yielded back to back flags in 1960 and 1961 and shortly thereafter the club embarked on a long and successful involvement in the Benalla and District Football League. The Towners’ time in the BDFL was highlighted by a trio of senior grade flags in 1982, 1987 and 1990, but their impact on the competition transcended the mere winning of premierships.
Since 2006 Violet Town has been a member of the Kyabram and District Football League and has consistently performed strongly. The Towners’ under eighteens side won the club’s first KDFL flag in 2007. The seniors followed suit five years later when they comfortably accounted for Undera in the grand final by a margin of 76 points, 23.18 (156) to 11.14 (80). Violet Town reached another senior grade grand final in 2017 only to get overrun by Nagambie who won perhaps even easier than the scores of 21.16 (142) to 13.11 (89) appear to indicate. The 2018 season brought a slump in fortune as the Towners won just 4 of their 18 home and away matches to tumble down the fourteen team ladder to eleventh.
