Western Districts
Over the course of its forty-eight year history Western Districts has evinced a notable tendency to accrue premierships in clumps rather than singly. Indeed, all but three of its twelve senior grade flags were won in sequence. The 2017 season brought an end to the longest premiership drought in the Saints' history. Top of the ladder at the conclusion of the minor round they cruised into the grand final on the strength of a 12.9 (81) to 3.8 (26) second semi final defeat of Dudley United. The grand final opposition once again came from Dudley United and Western Districts' triumph was every bit as emphatic as it had been a fortnight earlier with scores of 17.12 (114) to 11.7 (73). The Saints went on to make the 2018 and were firmly installed as favourites ahead of the clash with Kingscote. However, the underdogs turned the form book on its head with a hard earned 3 point triumph.
