The Hawks have been a force since the turn of the century claiming senior grade flags in 2002 and 2007 as well as a couple of under eighteen premierships and one in the reserves. Prior to the merger in 1978 Woodend in particular had enjoyed a fair amount of success, winning senior grade Riddell District Football League premierships in 1930, 1931, 1937, 1954 and 1964. Hesket meanwhile had enjoyed premiership success just once, in 1960.

Recent seasons have seen the Hawks struggling near the foot of the premiership ladder. For example, they finished twelfth of thirteen in both 2013 and 2014, ninth in 2015, tenth in 2016, and ninth in 2017 before improving somewhat to miss out on finals participation only narrowly in finishing seventh in 2018.
