Match Report

Next up on the Saturday agenda, we now head a little further up Port Road to the Alberton Oval where the Magpies played the Tigers. These sides played out a classic under lights at Gliderol Stadium earlier this season, the Magpies nicking a three-point win in Round 2. Both sides are down the wrong end of the ladder with only the Crows cushioning their fall. The Tigers broke a five-game losing streak last weekend in their clash against South by three points, while the Magpies were left stunned at Kadina as the Crows took their first victory of the year by 56 points.

The Magpies were all over the place in the opening term, kicking six behinds to begin the day while the Tigers scored 3.3 to lead by 15 points at quarter-time. They managed to find the big ones in the second term, but would find themselves down by 25 points at the long break after the Bays scored five goals without a miss to the 'Pies 3.2. The bulk of the AFL contingent may as well have not shown up going by what the papers wrote, the Tigers' running rings around them and a goal-kicking clinic from a former Magpies' player adding insult to injury. If only this form came earlier this season, they wouldn't have just been playing for pride. Glenelg continued to stretch their advantage when play resumed, it would be out to 39 points by three quarter-time after the Tigers added 4.3 to Port's 2.1. The home side's last quarter would leave people asking where that was for three quarters, but their peppering of goal would get them 4.5, all but useless against the visitors' 4.1. The Tigers would run out 35-point winners and see them hop over Port on the ladder.

Josh Scott was named best on ground for Glenelg, while Port named Jimmy Toumpas as their best as he seeks a return to the Power.
