Match Report

There were two games programmed for the Saturday afternoon, the first one takes us to the My Money House Oval in Elizabeth where the Bulldogs hosted the Eagles. The last time these two sides met, the Eagles should have blasted the Dogs off the park at Woodville in Round 2. Despite getting the victory, the Eagles went from 47 points up at half-time to 27-point winners calling into question their staying power at the time. The Dogs' inaccuracy that day also scuttled any chance of an upset. The Dogs spoiled the retirement party at Alberton last week with their 22-point win, while the Eagles were outlasted by the Panthers.

While the Eagles had the bulk of possession and entries into their 50 in the opening quarter, their accuracy would keep Centrals in the hunt early on. The Eagles would lead by four points at quarter-time, having scored 2.5 to 2.1. The bug jumped camps for the second quarter, the Dogs fluffing a few chances of their own as their old rivals' found their goal-scoring boots. The Eagles kicked 5.1 to 1.4 to take a 25-point lead into the long break. The Bulldogs' third quarter efforts would bring them to within striking distance of causing the Eagles another pre-finals headache, remember that the final round last season ended in a Dogs' win and ultimate de-railment of the Eagles' September campaign. The home side kicked 4.2 to 2.2, the deficit cut back to 13 points by three quarter-time. But there would be no final round loss this time around, the visitors with all the answers kicked 4.3 to the Dogs' 2.2 to run out 26-point victors.

Luke Sharrad was named best for the Eagles, the Dogs named young gun Aaron Nietschke as their best on ground.
