For the rest of the weekend's action it was on for young and old on Saturday arvo, the first being the clash between the Roosters and the Bloods at Prospect Oval. Both sides copped losses to begin 2019, the Roosters downed by the Eagles at Woodville and the Bloods were swooped by the Magpies at home. Worse still for the Bloods was their horrid pair of outings against North last season, in particular the Round 2 massacre to the tune of 23 goals at Menzies Crescent. That was followed by an eight-goal loss at Richmond in Round 12. With the unfurling of their premiership flag and a four-point deficit on the ladder still over their heads, all the pressure was on North on their home deck.
They got off to the right start early on, taking a 17-point lead into the quarter-time huddle after scoring 5.1 to the Bloods' 2.2 in the opening stanza. The Bloods however, were the ones ahead at the long break. They would score 5.3 to 2.1 in the second term, going into the change rooms with a three-point lead. But very little impact would come from the Bloods camp from this point onwards, the Roosters would keep them relatively silent. Although North's inaccuracy was begging for Westies to make a comeback, the visitors wasted several prime goal-scoring opportunities, kicking 1.4 to the Roosters' 5.4. At three quarter-time, North were ahead by 21 points. The Roosters would maintain their stranglehold from here, but more inaccuracy on goal will probably be addressed through this week after they finished the afternoon with a 2.5 to 1.3 final term to win by 29 points.
Captain Max Thring was named best for the Roosters, the Bloods named John Noble as their best.
