Match Report

Adelaide remained unbeaten (including their run through the NAB Cup) in 2012 after taking care of a determined Western Bulldogs outfit by 18 points. In a tight and tough contest, the Crows resisted a gallant second-half comeback from the Bulldogs after they seemed to be cruising to victory at half-time. The Bulldogs kicked four goals to nil during the third term to go into the final break only two points down. An early goal gave them the lead (briefly) in the last quarter, but the home ground advantage proved crucial for Adelaide who were able to steady and finish strongly. Midfielder Scott Thompson celebrated his 200th game in style for the Crows with another best-on-ground performance, after gathering 39 touches against Gold Coast in round one. Taylor Walker was again crucial for the Crows up forward, kicking three goals, including the matchwinner. The Bulldogs are still without a win in 2012, but new coach Brendan McCartney said he couldn’t fault his side’s efforts. Dogs skipper Matthew Boyd was in vintage form and played a key role in the third-quarter comeback.

COACHES COMMENTS
Brenton Sanderson (Ade): I was a bit concerned at three quarter-time because it looked like were spent. A lot of that in the last quarter tonight was just grunt. The effort we gave in the last quarter was something very special. I know there were some great individual acts, but I thought the team just willed their way to win.

Brendan McCartney (WB): We were quite disappointed with how easily Adelaide were able to do some things in the first half. When you get desperate to win, what happens is you start chasing the ball into areas of the ground where you probably shouldn't be.

Umpires: Bannister, Hay, Schmitt
