Match Report

Hawthorn made up for their devastating loss to Geelong in round two by comprehensively dismantling the previously undefeated Adelaide by 56 points. It was new Crows coach Brenton Sanderson’s first loss as coach in all competitions after Adelaide also won the NAB Cup. It was a classic team performance from the Hawks, with 13 goalkickers and winners all around the ground. Defender Josh Gibson was fantastic with 29 possessions, 15 marks and providing great rebound run for the Hawks. Crows key forward Kurt Tippett was dangerous, kicking three goals, but his goalkicking remains a work in progress as he missed several easy chances. The Crows started well and were only one goal down at quarter time, but the Hawks were slowly able to build their lead throughout the game. The match finished on a sour note for the Hawks with Luke Breust stretchered from the ground after being knocked unconscious in a sickening clash with Brodie Martin while running back with the flight of the ball.

COACHES COMMENTS
Alastair Clarkson (Haw): We were just mindful that if we could use the ball in a manner that we liked and could control the ball by foot, then it would make it more difficult [for them]. I thought we did that better in the second half than we did in the first

Brenton Sanderson (Ade): We played a good side today and at times we looked pretty good ... but on reflection it was a pretty disappointing final result. We had too many guys who were down - that's the simple message.

Umpires: Margetts, Leppard, McInerney
