Match Report

Both teams were under the pump coming into this encounter. Honourable losses through the first five rounds had started to frustrate supporters, with the two sides carrying 1-4 records. But it was Richmond who kicked into gear as they completely dismantled a disappointing Port Adelaide side. The Tigers were never troubled as their midfield got on top of the Power, with former Adelaide ruckman Ivan Maric playing his best game for the club. The cult hero with the flowing mullet hairstyle collected 20 possessions and had 46 hit outs in a dominant display. The Power struggled to attain any momentum throughout the contest and took a giant step backwards after having been competitive in the opening five rounds. Port coach Matthew Primus said in the post-match he expected to be “bashed” by the media, and that statement proved to be correct, with experienced The Advertiser journalist Michelangelo Rucci called for Primus to be sacked in an article on the Monday after the game.

COACHES COMMENTS
Matthew Primus (Port): I'm the coach of the club, our performances haven't been great, so no worries - I expect to be under the spotlight. I'm not naive to think our performances aren't going to put me under the spotlight.

Damien Hardwick (Rich): I've said previously our performance up to this stage was OK, without quite getting the four points, but to come over here and beat Port on their home deck by 37 points; it's not easy travelling.

Umpires: McBurney, Ritchie, Margetts
