Match Report

North Melbourne’s groundbreaking win over Geelong in round three was expected to pave the way for a dominant season. Since that famous Sunday evening, the Kangaroos have been less than impressive. Their only win since came against an under strength Gold Coast – even then the Kangaroos were down at half time. Coach Brad Scott was so infuriated after their loss to the Western Bulldogs he didn’t address the players until the next day. The match was of a low standard in the first half, but proceedings went up a notch in the second. Dominant full-back Brian Lake led the way for the Bulldogs in upsetting the highly fancied Kangaroos. The Dogs never built a match-winning lead but they always held the upper hand. Mature-aged recruit Tory Dickson, in his third game, proved to be a handful for North’s defence, kicking four goals. North ruckman Hamish McIntosh was subbed off in the third quarter after suffering a heavy knock, but it looked to be only a one to two week knee injury.

COACHES COMMENTS
Brad Scott (NM): I thought the Western Bulldogs out-pressured us, out-contested us out ran and beat us in almost every facet of the game. I thought they were fantastic today so full credit to them.

Brendan McCartney (WB): We've been very patchy - which everyone's been well aware of - with the ball. And I think today we were OK in all three areas for a bit longer against a footy club we respect. We've now got three wins, and we get onto next week and try to do it again.

Umpires: Nicholls, Wenn, Jennings
