Match Report

A dominant second quarter was enough for Hawthorn to record a comfortable victory over a disappointing Fremantle. The Hawks piled on eight goals to two in the second term to climb back into the top eight after a less than impressive start to the season. It was the Hawks’ third-straight win following their round five fadeout against Sydney at Aurora Stadium. Fremantle coach Ross Lyon’s highly defensive game-plan was again employed, but Hawthorn was able to score at ease. Before this game, Fremantle had restricted opponents to an average 44 inside 50s per game - by half-time, Hawthorn had 40. Hawks big man Jarryd Roughead was dominant, kicking four goals and providing great spark around the contests. Hawks excitement machine Cyril Rioli marked Indigenous Round with a blistering display against Dockers defenders. For the Dockers, Michael Barlow was their best, while Stephen Hill and Ryan Crowley were also important.

COACHES COMMENTS
Alastair Clarkson (Haw): It's been good to get a couple of goals down here, and a few kicks. The second half against Sydney wasn't great but today was a four quarter effort. To kick nine goals in the first half against Freo - you're [usually] lucky to get nine goals in the whole game.

Ross Lyon (Frem): I thought we got annihilated in midfield to be frank, I felt sorry for our defence. They (Hawthorn) just walked the ball out (of defence), dominated clearances, ground ball, first possession and our backs were under siege. Our desire to compete in the midfield and work and run with them was very poor.

Umpires: Justin Schmitt, Troy Pannell, Andrew Mitchell
