Match Report

Gold Coast supporters expected to see the Suns win for the first time at their home ground when they took on Port Adelaide. But another second-half capitulation by the Suns saw Gold Coast remain winless after nine rounds in 2012. The match was the Suns’ for the taking at half-time, going in just one-point behind. But a seven-goal to none third quarter from Port was all it took for the Power to record their third victory of the season and second in a row. Gold Coast recorded their first win in the AFL by defeating Port in amazing circumstances in 2011, but there would be no final quarter resurgence this time. The disappointing result came in the same week that Suns' coach Guy McKenna had his contract renewed until the end of 2014. Suns' captain Gary Ablett had just 24 possessions and wasn’t able to assert his usual dominance. At times, Ablett was frustrated and appeared to be demanding more of his teammates.

COACHES COMMENTS
Guy McKenna (GCS): Another three quarter effort, but that's probably where we're at, at the moment. We squared the last quarter, but (conceding) 7.7 in the third quarter is obviously unacceptable. We've got to keep demanding and coaching the boys out of that.

Matthew Primus (Port): I thought we came out a bit lazy in the first 10 minutes ... and then we were able to wrest back control of the game. Our third quarter - probably everything we judge ourselves on: our contested stuff, our structure around stoppages  - was beautiful and we are able to generate a lot of our forward play out of that.

Umpires: Foot, Jeffery, Mollison
