Match Report
This game was all about one man: Lance ‘Buddy’ Franklin. The superstar Hawk forward demolished North Melbourne single-handedly, finishing with 13 goals, including 12 in the final three quarters. Franklin was simply brilliant as he smashed his own personal best of nine majors. After spending time in the midfield during the early stages of the year, he was left to run free inside the forward 50. It was the highest goal tally from a player since Scott Cummings kicked 14 while playing for West Coast against Adelaide in 2000.
North coach Brad Scott said after the match it was one of the best individual displays he had ever seen. The 115-point massacre was Hawthorn’s biggest ever win over North Melbourne. It was the Kangaroos’ fourth loss in five matches and they sat in 12th position on the ladder and on equal points with the 15th-placed Western Bulldogs. The only real winners for the Kangaroos on the day were young forward Sam Wright, who booted three goals, and speedster Daniel Wells.

COACHES COMMENTS
Alastair Clarkson (Haw): Bud got on the end of the ball today which was terrific … [but] it's not about Lance, it's about our team. We were able to break the Kangaroos open because we had work-rate right across the ground … we were able to beat them in every quarter and we kept the pressure on them all day.
Brad Scott (NM): It was a bitterly disappointing day for all of us. Our attitude is that it's been an aberration. We've had some performances that have been far from satisfactory but not one like that where we've been completely obliterated in all areas.
