Match Report

Adelaide bounced back from a disappointing loss to Collingwood the week before with a vital win away from home against Fremantle. Late in the second term it looked like the Crows would cruise to a comfortable victory when they led by 36 points. But to the Dockers’ credit they fought back hard in the third term. They even pinched the lead early in the final term, but the Crows just had too much class and went on to kick the last five goals of the game. The win cemented Adelaide’s position in the top four going into their bye in round 11. Key Crows Rory Sloane and Patrick Dangerfield were terrific and led the charge in the final term. Fremantle slumped to a 5-5 record and sat in 11th place on the ladder. Dockers coach Ross Lyon had come under intense scrutiny for his game plan during the week leading into the game – former Carlton player Mark Maclure even said he was running football. That performance from the Dockers probably wouldn’t have changed his opinion.

COACHES COMMENTS
Ross Lyon (Fre): I thought we showed plenty of spirit to come from behind. The clearance work in the end allowed them to grab the momentum back and that hurt us. You can lose going forward, and I felt really today, the group has got some really valuable lessons.

Brenton Sanderson (Ade): know we'll talk about Rory Sloane's game for a long time - his importance around our midfield today was exceptional. For them [Fremantle] to fight back from six goals down and then to get in front of us, a lot of sides would have thrown the towel in then. A lot of sides would have thought that's enough, but not this team. This team has got incredible spirit.

Umpires: Margetts, Stewart, Pannell (replaced by Dalgleish at quarter-time)
