St Kilda thumped Gold Coast for the second time in 2012. The Saints won by 92 points at Etihad Stadium in Round 2 and followed it up with a 95-point victory on the Suns’ home turf. St Kilda captain Nick Riewoldt starred for the visitors (seven goals) and brought up his 500th career goal during the second quarter. The winless Suns were never in the contest, failing to win a quarter, as the Saints regained their position in the top-eight. After being criticised in the media during the year for being too lenient on his side's poor performances, Suns coach Guy McKenna was scathing in the post-match press conference. "It certainly looked like they gave it in, they turned their toes up,” Mckenna said. St Kilda dominated all aspects, winning the disposal count 398-305, the clearances 42-27 and the inside 50s, 65-31. Gold Coast superstar Gary Ablett was quiet after coming off a record 53-possession game.

COACHES COMMENTS
Guy McKenna (GC): "It certainly looked like they gave it in, they turned their toes up. There comes a time when enough's enough, we have to stand up for ourselves. Their talent, their speed and their strength you don't lose that from week to week. Tonight's game showed absolutely nothing.

Scott Watters (StK): I think you get in trouble when you start to try and read to what level they (the opposition) are playing … it's hard to measure that. But we did our best to certainly apply pressure and keep them in the forward half of our ground and maybe that stifled their offence.
