Match Report

Hawthorn star Lance Franklin couldn’t repeat his 13-goal effort the week before, but he was still one of the dominant players in the Hawks’ big win over Port Adelaide. The 2008 Coleman medalist kicked 4.4, but was outshone by midfielder Brad Sewell who racked up 33 possessions to be the best player on the ground. Franklin was reported for a sling tackle in the final term, but escaped suspension. The game was fiery at times and Sewell said the fierce contest was brought about because of the rivalry that exsists between the clubs. “There was a bit of niggle on both parts from both sides. It was based on things that were happening ... a knock off the ball here or there from both sides and that is what happens,” he said. Up and coming Port midfielder Matthew Broadbent was the Power’s best player, while Andrew Moore played his best game for the club.

COACHES COMMENTS
Matthew Primus (Port): "Hawthorn's] kicking efficiency was something like 72, 73, 74 per cent and ours was just below the AFL average of what it's been this year. It's just a matter of working on it and dealing with, when you're under pressure, this is how you have to execute your skills by foot or hand.

Alastair Clarkson (Haw): They're a proud side and so are we, so when you're trying to stop one and other from doing what they want to do there's going to be a bit of friction. I've been pleased with our last two weeks, we were really disappointed with our effort against Richmond. All you can do in this game is work hard week-to-week and as boring as that is, we'll just focus on Brisbane next week.

Umpires: Farmer, Stewart, Fila
