Match Report

Adelaide forwards Kurt Tippett and Jason Porplyzia powered the Crows to their seventh win in eight matches, hanging on against a plucky St Kilda. Tippett and Porplyzia were dominant early, with the former slotting three first-term goals, completely taking hold of Saints defender Jason Blake. The win was the Crows’ ninth of the season and took them to an equal share of top of the ladder with West Coast and Collingwood. It was a massive turnaround from the two sides’ previous encounter in round 18, 2011 when the Saints won by 103 points and goal sneak Stephen Milne contributed eight goals. Adelaide looked like cruising to victory when they led by 31 points at three-quarter time. But St Kilda lifted in the final term to almost snatch a remarkable win. Saints midfielder Leigh Montagna kicked truly after the full-time siren to reduce the final margin to just four points. Nick Dal Santo was clearly the Saints’ best, putting on a midfield masterclass.

COACHES COMMENTS
Brenton Sanderson (Adel): Our good was very good, our bad was very bad. We're sitting 9-2, on top of the ladder, but what it does highlight is there is some work to do.

Scott Watters (StK): [We're] 6-6, in need of a break, but ultimately still with our own destiny in our hands. We've had some close losses that you need to turn into close wins. We're still very positive about where we sit … they'll freshen up over the bye, which is really important for the group, and we'll reload.
