Match Report
The AFL’s newest side, Greater Western Sydney, put up another gutsy performance, but they again just fell short. The game was highlighted by the debut of 2011 number one draft pick, Jonathon Patton, who had been sidelined for the opening half of the year due to a knee injury. The key forward showed plenty of promise, presenting well and finishing with one major. He was complimented well by another young Giants forward, Jeremy Cameron who kicked three goals. The two showed they could be fearsome combination for defenders in the years to come. On a wet afternoon in Sydney, Richmond wasted plenty of opportunities in front of goal, while the young Giants were right on target with 12.2 for the day. Although it was far from impressive, the victory got the Tigers to 6-6 record and back on track for a first finals appearance in 11 years. Forgotten Tiger Daniel Connors, playing his first game for 2012, played a vital role with three goals, including two in the last quarter.

Kevin Sheedy (GWS): With the amount of changes we've had to the side and coming off a pretty solid effort at Geelong [in our last game], we're disappointed that we lost really. The players are playing somewhere near their maximum
Damien Harwdick (Rich): We had the ball inside 50 a hell of a lot more, we just couldn't get the result on the scoreboard, and the opposition kicked 12.2. All credit to that footy club next door, they're going to be an outstanding unit and they've recruited very well. They're going to be very, very good, very, very quickly, which is a concern for the rest of us.
