Match Report

North Melbourne pulled off one of the upsets of the season by easily accounting for Adelaide. The Kangaroos had been bitterly disappointing since what was supposed to be a landmark win against Geelong in round three. But against Adelaide, they got their running game back and completely dominated the highly-fancied Crows; apart from a period in the third quarter when the visitors threatened to storm back into the contest. Adelaide blew a golden opportunity to go to equal top of the ladder with Collingwood by winning this game. The Crows kicked five goals in a row in the third quarter to get back within 22 points, but North controlled the tempo from the start of the match. Injury-prone forward Robbie Tarrant played the best game of his AFL career, kicking four goals, while the wayward kicking Lindsay Thomas got back into some brilliant form. The pressure had been on North for a number of weeks, particularly on chairman James Brayshaw. The media personality was visibly emotional as the Kangaroos stormed home to the surprise victory.

COACHES COMMENTS
Brad Scott (NM): We firmly believe when we play at our best, our best is pretty good and it is capable of taking it up to the best sides in the competition, and Adelaide have proven to this point of the year that they're one of them. So we just had to get back to the fundamentals of what makes us play well. We focused on those while trying to blunt some of Adelaide's obvious strengths

Brenton Sanderson (Adel): The number that we take the most pride in as a football club is our contested ball, and when you go in as No.1 in the competition and you get beaten by 19, that's probably the main reason we got beaten. We've been so good inside the contest, but today we got beaten inside the contest and outside.

Umpires: Nicholls, Kamolins, Pannell
