Match Report

Collingwood exacted further revenge on Geelong for their 2011 Grand Final loss by thumping the Cats for the second time in 2012. The Cats were never in the contest and the end margin flattered them. Star midfielder Scott Pendlebury made a welcome return from a leg injury to the Collingwood line-up, finishing with 36 possessions. Dane Swan was again superb with 40 disposals and could be on his way to back-to-back Brownlow medals. While Geelong still sit inside the top eight, this game was the start of a six-week block of games against tough opposition. They play teams all fighting for finals positions over that period. The win secured the Magpies position in the top-four, but with competition for spots high on the ladder so close, they must keep winning. It was a welcome return to the winners list for Nathan Buckley’s side after their 10-game winning streak was ended in surprising fashion by arch-rivals Carlton the week before.

COACHES COMMENTS
Chris Scott (Geel): I don't think we played well early, and I thought we were pretty good for three quarters after that. But it's clear that our level at the moment ... is not where we needs it to be.

Nathan Buckley (Coll): You're looking for the inspiration and the reason to find that intensity all the time, and you need to keep backing up and finding that sort of intensity against any opposition. But clearly after a poor performance where there were question marks over your competiveness and your intensity, it was important to bounce back pretty quickly.

Umpires: Rosebury, Stewart, Nicholls
