Match Report

Greater Western Sydney fell to yet another 100-point plus loss, but they were more competitive in periods than they have been in recent weeks. The tiring young bodies of Giants were never going to be a match for a Collingwood team dreaming of premiership glory. The Magpies put contract talks with star forward Travis Cloke on hold until the end of the season during the week, a move which looked to be beneficial for club and player. Cloke’s form had been well down for most of the season and the speculation regarding where he may be in 2013 appeared to be a major distraction for himself and the Magpies. But with talks shelved, Cloke looked to be a free man, kicking a season-high six goals, albeit against a young, understrength Giants backline. Dane Swan did his chances of back-to-back Brownlow Medals no harm with the ultimate midfield display (37 possessions and five goals). Collingwood extended its lead at every change and blew the margin right out in the final term, kicking nine goals to one.

COACHES COMMENTS
Kevin Sheedy (GWS): I think we won the ball and most of the time we were fairly courageous. They're the sorts of things you're trying to get right. We'd like our kicking skills to be better but the guys are edgy to kick the ball.

Nathan Buckley (Coll): If you have been struggling, any good form is positive for the individual and clearly for the side. When Clokey's taking marks against an opposition and kicking goals, we're a better side, and it was good to see tonight.
